Never Alone

“Loved one and friend You have put far from me, and my acquaintances into darkness.” -Psalm 88:18

“He has removed my brother far from me, and my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.” -Job 19:13

  • Job 19:19
  • Psalm 31:11
  •             38:11
  •             69:8
  •             88:8
  •            142:4
  • Isaiah 53:3

At first I thought these verses were saying that the Lord gives and takes away our companions.  They truly are a gift from God, and they can vanish at any moment, even without warning.  This is why we must cherish our friends and never take them for granted.

However, Isaiah 53:3,changed my perspective (slightly) on these verses.  These verses might not be about us at all, but about Christ.  He was deserted in His hour of need.  The very hour that it would have lessened the burden to have friends by His side, they all ran, out of fear.  His own Father even turned away from Him.  Jesus knew what it meant to be completely and utterly alone, which is why He is the perfect comforter in our loneliness.

Jesus is always by our side, walking through life with us.  He knows that life can be hard, He’s lived it.  He’s been there, done that.  He knows what is in store for us in the future, both good and bad, and because He sees it coming, He is the perfect One to walk hand-in-hand with us through it.
